Directorate of Operations

The Directorate of Operations is the enforcement and field coordination arm of the Gambia Immigration Department. It ensures the lawful movement of persons, secures national borders, and manages immigration stations across the country.

Leadership:

  • ADG Operations
    Provides strategic oversight of all operational units and regional deployments.
  • Commissioner Operations
    Coordinates national enforcement activities, supervises specialized units, and ensures compliance with immigration laws.
  • Regional Commissioners
    Oversee all operations within their assigned regions, including immigration stations, border posts, and field units.
  • Supervise Area Commanders and Station Officers.
  • Ensure effective service delivery, discipline, and reporting across formations.
  • Act as the operational link between headquarters and field stations.

Units & Offices:

  • Migration Management Unit (MMU)
    Leads operational coordination of migration-related activities.
    • Conducts mobile monitoring and rapid response operations.
    • Supports deportation, repatriation, and reintegration efforts.
    • Coordinates with other directorates on irregular migration cases.
  • Border Patrol Unit
    Secures land and maritime borders through surveillance and patrols.
    • Detects and intercepts unauthorized crossings.
    • Collaborates with intelligence and national security agencies.
    • Enhances border integrity and national safety.
  • Child Welfare Unit
    Ensures the protection of minors in migration contexts.
    • Identifies vulnerable children at borders and stations.
    • Coordinates with child protection agencies.
    • Promotes child-sensitive procedures in enforcement.
  • Inspectorate / RSM (Regimental Sergeant Major)
    Maintains discipline and operational readiness of field officers.
  • Oversees uniform standards, conduct, and ceremonial duties.
  • Acts as liaison between command and rank-and-file personnel.
  • Supports internal inspections and morale-building.
